Little Secrets

Once upon a time, I was a little girl who tore pictures out of magazines. Pretty pictures of things I loved and desired to have, ideal hairstyles and fashionable accessories. Growing up this was the norm amongst my peers - who didn't have a collage of celebrity faces or fashion on their walls when they were kids?
In the last few years, I've realized that I'm still doing this. Taking pieces of the latest look-books, fashion magazines and coffee table books, and keeping a collection of all the things that make me say "Ahhhhhhhh!" Instead of keeping them on my walls or in a pretty inspiration book, I've been throwing them into a manila envelope simply titled YES. Last Saturday I was feeling uninspired and couldn't seem to settle the frightening feeling that nothing ever seems to fit right, or look how I want it to, or that my ideas couldn't ever be summed up and reflected. Then out of the corner of my eye, I saw my little goldenrod beacon of hope... my YES-file.
I pulled out 3 years of inspiration and laid it out before me. Pictures of things I noted in the past and saved away were things I've subconsciously turned into my standard of fashion currently. It made me laugh how much I let the media affect me, yet, I was able to pick and choose -- allowing myself to stay within boundaries I created. I let myself have an opinion. It's great to know that in a world of so many trends, fads and foreshadowing that we are all unique. In a way, we are all little Yes-files. I really like that.
