{Tutorial Tuesday: Fiesta Flags}

i've been swooning over cute little party decorations for months, and finally it's summer, the perfect season for no-reason parties! pinatas, streamers and tinsel - oh my!! all these wonderful party decorations are so cute, but so temporary! below is a simple, party decoration that is easy to make and lasts forever!!materials needed:
sturdy fabric
miscellaneous fabrics, of different fun colors
scissors
sewing machine
extra wide double fold ribbon

1. cut a triangle-shaped wedge out of your strong material. make each triangle as large as you want each flag, this will be the background of your flag.
2. using your fun colored fabrics, cut 2" long strips. fold strip 6 times, pin in place and cut multiple slits into the bottom of the pinned fabric. un-pin. repeat with other fabrics, at least 3 are needed.
3. drape your colorful fabric strips over the bottom of your triangle wedge. cut to the appropriate size that fits the bottom point. pin and sew. repeat with multiple layers, working your way up the triangle, using larger and larger sections.
4. about 1/3rd of the way up your triangle wedge, switch fabric color and continue. repeat, by again changing fabrics once you reach 2/3rds of the way up.
5. once you have reached the top of your triangle with fabric, take your double fold ribbon (folded cotton strips, available at any fabric store in the finishing section) and slip the top of the flag into the middle of the ribbon. sew together.
6. keep adding flags to your double fold ribbon, until your fiesta flags reach the desired length. remember to make each flag different! have fun with your color combinations and flag size!
ta-da! here's the final product: they'd make really cute window dressings too!!
