Colorado: Day 2

Colorado Day 2 was so much fun and the majority of our day was spent with his family and doing what we love most: Mr + I headed to his favorite hometown tattoo parlor where we both got something new!
He has been working on an amazing half-sleeve, and was able to complete it with an old-fashioned wooden arrowhead and the Colorado state motto, "Nil Sine Numine" (translated from Latin to read: Nothing without God). My piece was a last-minute decision, but it felt so right and turned out amazing. 
Day 2 was wrapped up by having dinner with Mr's entire family and getting to know them was truly a treasure. I can't wait to share the rest of our trip with you!!

Colorado: Day 1

I'm finally back from my trip to Colorado. It was an amazing adventure and so much fun! Day one was a great kickoff to a wonderful trip. Mr & I had the morning off where we slept in, grabbed brunch and yummy mimosas, took pictures and played games in the Portland International Airport.
I had such butterflies about this trip. Mr took me to Colorado to meet his family and friends for the first time (the mimosas helped in this aspect) so I had crazy nerves, but I knew I'd love them all. We hopped a red eye late Thursday night and were on our way to the Mile High City...

Style Profile by Miles Langley

Earlier this year, I was blessed by meeting a wonderful group of New Zealand travelers visiting the US for the first time. Out of the group of charming fellows was Miles Langley, a filmmaker based out of London. While in Portland, he asked if he could film a style profile for Seablanket, to which I happily accepted. welcome to the jungle

I've watched a few movies recently featuring my #1 style icon, Brigitte Bardot, and have taken into consideration some of my favorite outfits of hers. In both the movies, editorial photos and candids, Brigitte was always one step ahead of the rest while resting on one note, always: comfort. How did she constantly look so chic while wearing such comfortable casual wear? Her clothes were tailored to fit perfectly. By mixing classic pieces with bold patterns and a fits-just-right feel, Brigitte can teach us so much about how to do just that in our own wardrobes.
My take on a Brigitte Bardot weekend look: Vintage faux fur leopard coat, one of my favorites that I NEVER wear... so glad i decided to pull it out of the closet. It's a trend-appropriate pattern, but in the vintage cut of a 1960's peacoat. Paired with some black cigarette jeans I cuffed twice and some ankle booties, it calms the boldness of the leopard print fur. I added a campy seersucker blue and white checked shirt, tucked into the denim for a classic preppy look. Finally, I threw on some black sunglasses and hit the town. I felt the simplicity of the look achieved the 1960's vibe, while the contrasting patterns of the leopard and the blue and white checkered blouse gave the extra edge that Brigitte would have worn.
Next time you're looking for that great weekend ensemble, I'd suggest you take a que from Brigitte and focus on tailored pieces with flare. Happy Monday to you all! I can't wait for what's in store this week. Love love, Chelsea

I love all things 70's bohemian right now and in Portland I'm seeing it everywhere. I've created a little shopping list of things that are must haves in the upcoming season if you've got a flare for rock n' roll:

The higher the wedge, the better! Don't forget to stock up on silver and brass rings, cuffs and head jewelry. Gimme some of that rockstar attitude and a sweet little bohemian edge and I'm all over it! What are you trend spotting?

Apricot + Cranberry Muffin DIY

I've been quite hooked on apricots lately. The following recipe is one of the best muffin recipes I've ever tried and the results are delicious. Follow the simple directions and enjoy a batch of your own:

• 
• 1 cup chopped dried apricots
• 1/2 cup canned, drained cranberries
  
• 1 cup boiling water
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 3/4 cup white sugar
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 cup melted butter
• 1/4 cup vegetable oil
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 1 egg

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease a 12 cup muffin pan, or line with paper muffin cups. Place chopped apricots into a small bowl, and pour the boiling water over them. Let stand for 5 minutes.
   
2. In a medium bowl stir together the flour, sugar, baking soda and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, oil, buttermilk and egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and stir until just blended. It is okay for the batter to have some lumps. Drain water from apricots, and mix along with cranberries into the batter. Spoon into the prepared muffin cups.
3. Bake for 16 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the top springs back when lightly pressed. Cool in the pan over a wire rack.
