{Manic Monday: Nirrimi Hakanson}

Today, I'm stepping away from my usual fashion love to highlight a young photographer I've stumbled upon and who's work is incredible. 17 year old Nirrimi's portfolio is more established than most 40 year olds, and her point of view is delightful... below are a few of her images I love as well as a set titled 'teenagers on a beach' (my personal favorite). Shows what a little interest and a lot of hard work can get you at any age. Hope you all enjoy!

She'll be queen of the fashion photographers in no time, but for now you can find Nirrimi here:
Hope everyone has a wonderful Monday!

{Trendy Thursday: Summer Plans}

I've got so many summer plans and to-do's...here's my list in pictures. I hope to travel somewhere fun, at least once in the next few months! I hope to get lost in adventure and climb mountains and see the ocean. Also, eat good food along the way
Oh! The places you'll go

Wade in the water

You're on top of the world

Home is whenever I'm with you
I must make my way down south sometime soon. A road trip just wouldn't be complete without some stopping at antique stores and thrift shops along the way! Where are you going for your summer vacation??

{Please & Thank You; June 16th}

Can you believe it's Wednesday already?! I can't! Thankfully, it's time for another Question and Answer post. Fun questions this week, thanks for always keeping me on my toes! xo
Q: What are your favorite bands?
A: My favorites are : Thrice, The Dear Hunter, Sigur Ros, Cursive, and the Beatles.
But currently, I am loving : Dr. Dog, The National, Tokyo Police Club, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Soap and Skin, Battles, and ohhhh so many more!

Q: What are some of your favorite movies?
A: I'll start with my two favorite filmmakers: Wes Anderson and Jean-Luc Godard. I am in love with every film they have made, and they have a large part to do with how I see the world. Other films I love are American Beauty, Amelie, Lost In Translation, An Education, Almost Famous, and Rear Window.

Q: Do you watch Glee?
A: I do. It's a fun show. Rachel reminds me of myself in high school.

Q: What is the craziest thing you've ever done?
A: Craziest, eh? I think that would be my whole drug life I used to live. Talk about CRAZY!

Q: What are your favorite blogs?
A: It changes daily. I love so many different kinds of blogs, but here are a few I love always. I love these fellas blogs: A Continuous Lean, Dude Craft, Them Thangs, and Chemistry Of Cool. For fashion and style, I always turn to Caroline in the City and Olsens Anonymous. My favorite food blogs are Cannelle et Vanille and the Gluttonous Vegan. Home design blogs are great, and I always return to Design*Sponge and Unhappy Hipsters. I also love music blogs, so I run one with my friend Chemistry of Cool, called 365 Songs for Chelsea. We post songs we like daily, so if you like hearing new music, tune in! If you have any blogs you think I should read, leave me a link!! I love to see what you think is groovy!

Q: What do you do to stay fit/ eat healthy/ stay energized.
A: To stay fit, I run and do yoga 4-5 times a week. I'd love to do more, but this allows me to be lazy. I try to eat healthy, but I think it comes easily, since I'm a vegetarian. Take advantage of the season and enjoy the fresh foods available locally! I love love love the taste of healthy foods and fresh produce. As far as staying energized, I've always been a peppy person, and I think it will always be part of who i am. I know that I've mentioned vitamins before, but I know that 5-HTP is a natural mood enhancer and I take that daily.

Q: What size shirt did you use for this week's DIY project? I'm a size 12 so what size shirt would you suggest I get to make that cute shirt you made on Tuesday?
A: I think it was a Mens Large, not sure what size that would be in women's. I would suggest that you get a shirt a size larger. I had to tailor my shirt to fit, once I'd created the neckline, so you'd actually be better off if you got a shirt that fits!! If you get a larger shirt, you'll have to tailor the back of it, so that it doesn't sag.

Q: How is your life right now? {via jgracic}
A: My life is a whirlwind. I recently described it to a friend, saying I feel like I'm caught in a tornado. I've really been struggling lately with getting my voice heard and not feeling like an individual. I've disappointed some people who are very close to me, and by burying my emotions, they often explode out of me at all the wrong times. I guess I'm learning, and I always will be. That is life, after all. I am excited for the summer, and hope that I'll be able to enjoy some of it. I know all my hard work will pay off in the future, but right now it's just plain hard. Thanks for asking babe ♥

Now for something fresh...This week, I've been Trying New Things!

1. Reading Rainbow
I started working on my Summer book list, with "All the Pretty Horses," by Cormac McCarthy. It's a short book, and so far it's amazing. I hope to take time away from my TV and computer screens this summer, and really loose myself in books like I used to. I'll let you know what I think of this book once I finish it!

2. Let It All Out
I often let things build up inside me, and this week I let it all out. I realized a few things that I'm unhappy about in my life and made a decision to change them. It's scary, but feels really great to have a clear head and idea of what i want in the near future. More details soon.

3. Summer To-Do's.
I made a list of things places that are within 3-4 hours of where I live that I'd like to visit on day trips over the summer. Also made a list of dinner dishes I'd like to make this summer, as well as bbq items!! So many good movies I'm looking forward to seeing as well as albums coming out. Lots in store for the summer... I'm so excited!

I leave you with this super sexy, amazing song by St. Vincent and The Liars.

{Tutorial Tuesday: Tall Tales Tank}

Welcome welcome to this week's Tutorial Tuesday!! This week, I will show you how to transform a simple men's button up shirt into a cute summer halter top. I wore mine this weekend, and it was so comfy! Take :30 minutes and create one of your own with these simple steps!

Supplies Needed:Men's Button Up Shirt
Scissors
Push Pins
Sewing Machine
Shoe Lace/Chord/Ribbon

Step 1. Cut the each arm off and straight across the neck area. We will re-use the sleeves, but you can put the neck area with your other scrap fabrics.

Step 2.Cut along the seam on each sleeve. Lay them out flat, one atop the other.

Step 3.Pin along the edge of one side of your sleeves. You will sew them together, in a straight line. This will merge the two sleeves into one, large strip of fabric.

Step 4.Next, trim along the bottom of your merged fabric, in a straight line, so it measures about 5" or 6" tall.

Step 5.Sew along a 1" loop along the bottom of your merged fabric.

Step 6.Attach the sleeve portion with the 1" loop to the top, front of your shirt.

Step 7.Thread your shoelace or chord through the 1" loop at the top of your shirt. We now have our halter!

Step 8. Sew the back side of the top of your shirt down, below the arm holes, and straight across.

Ta-Da, that's it!! This should be your final product:
You may want to tailor the fit once you've completed steps 1-9 and if so, just sew up the back to the size you prefer. I am going to take an XXL men's shirt and do the same thing, but this time, make a dress... it'd be the cutest swimsuit cover-up! Hope you all enjoy!
