Hide + Seek Chain Earring DIY

Lately, I've been a big fan of wearing one dramatic earring at a time. Maybe it's the fact that it will now go nicely with my asymmetrical haircut or the fact that I really don't want to wear two pairs of long dangle earrings when I can get away with one. Last week, I made myself a handful of long layered chain + charm earrings and now, I'll show you how:
Materials needed:
Wire cutters or Pliers
Small Metallic colored Chains
1 Earring hook
Small Circular Wire Ring
*charms - optional
Cut 3-5 pieces of chain all in staggering (aka. stair-stepping) lengths using your wire cutters. Chains can all be the same or you can incorporate different colors, shapes and sized chains. Next, ply your wire ring open and slide the ends of each chain onto circle. Adding an earring hook, next use your wire cutters to force wire ring closed.
a) you're done, great job!! OR b) you can now add charms to the bottoms or middle of some of your chains. This will amp up the look and make them even more festive.
Evoke your inner bad-ass with a hint of ladylike gold and some long layered chains. You really can't go wrong here.. have fun!
BTW- Before an After haircut pics coming soon:)

Style Crush: Leigh Lezark

I've always had style crushes on starlets of the past but this week I wanted to recognize a modern style icon. Leigh Lezark of the DJ trio 'Misshapes' and a close friend to the house of Chanel, happens to be my favorite modern style crush. From her incredible asymmetrical bob haircut, down to her 5 inch Chanel heels, I am in total envy.
She's the right parts edgy and chic to make this uptown girl, downtown chic. xxoo chelsea
P.S. I'm getting a longer version of her haircut done this afternoon! YAY!

What I Wore: Pretty Parcels

Tis' the Season to be fancy. With only 5 Days until New Year's Eve do you know what you're wearing yet? I'm sure I'll change my outfit a good 10 times before leaving the house. My suggestion? Don any sparkly, shiny thing you might own and pair it with red lipstick, heels and a smile. You can't go wrong.
As I mentioned on Christmas Eve, everyday this week I've given myself permission to dress up fancy. Today, my outfit was just the right parts comfort and sparkle. I've never been one to wear lots of lady like pieces at once but heck, today's an exception!
{What I Wore: Brass Sequin Bolero Jacket, Forever 21. Black Boyfriend Tee, American Apparel. Black Scalloped Lace Mini-Skirt, GAP. Thigh High Knit Socks, Vince Camuto Booties.}
Can you believe it's almost 2011?? Eep, lots to do and so many plans to make! xxoo Chelsea

Under The Mistletoe

It's Christmas Eve and I'm so happy to have my whole family under one roof tonight. Christmas with my family usually involves a gigantic breakfast, sharing gifts, a mid-afternoon nap and lots of laughter. For us, it's about family and that's what makes this holiday so special.
Today, I'm am dressed all fancy! I've got this theory that one has the right to wear party attire every day between December 24th and January 1st and I plan on taking full advantage of it.
What I'm Wearing: Anthropologie Dress, Betsey Johnson Tights, Kelsie Dagger Wedge Booties, Sweater- Unknown, Anthropologie Headband
I'm off - going to settle in with some hot buttered rum and watch White Christmas and The Snowman with Munchie and the family. Happy Holidays to all, and to all a goodnight! xxoo Chelsea

Everything Is Golden

Renegade was an incredible experience and while I wasn't able to visit with all the vendors, I was able to snag a couple amazing pieces from some pretty amazing people:
First, I picked up a few pieces from the incredible Tanya of Aguiniga Design. She was so sweet and I couldn't resist her stunning feminine rope jewelry. The gold leaf knot bracelet was a gift and I just had to pick up a layered coral necklace as well.Next, was the amazing Leslie of Chime Designs. Hand crafted from cracked drum cymbals, each piece of jewelry is a true work of recycled art. I just love the length and color of the Magnum Long earrings and can't wait to order more.Lastly, I was able to meet the vivacious Stephanie of Twinkie Chan! I love all her foodie creations and Vivs and I were lucky enough to snag up two of her Cupcake Coffee Cozy's before they were all gone. I have been using mine for everything and can't wait to get more of her crochet creations. There were so many incredible vendors at Renegade but I was over the top about these three. I must say, I think I'll be a frequent customer from here on out. Xxoo Chelsea

Happy 1st Birthday!

I'm so happy to announce that today marks the 1 year anniversary of the Seablanket Blog!

From the first comment on my blog, left by my dear friend Liz which read "You have no idea how happy this makes me. Now, take over the world!" I knew that I loved blogging and being a part of this community of artists. It's been a pure joy getting to know so many of you and I am confident that my love and admiration will only grow as time passes. In 2010, SB accomplished many things including opening the Seablanket Etsy Shoppe and making 100 sales in 6 months, attending Renegade Craft Fair as a handmade vendor, and posting over 65 unique DIY tutorials and I've loved every minute...
What's next for Seablanket you ask??
I've been keeping this secret for months and am so excited to finally announce to the public that I'm MOVING!!! In 2 weeks, I'll be packing up and moving myself and the Seablanket Headquarters to Portland, Oregon! Joining the city full of creative forces will be a fun adventure and I plan to document the journey and joys of working even harder to make Seablanket a known and respected brand, not just online but with a physical presence in Portland and the Northwest as well. Look forward to lots of fun DIY's and fashion posts as I embark on transforming my new post-modern home into my SB headquarters along with lots of great guest posts from creative individuals I meet along the way. I want nothing more than to meet creative people and introduce them to you. The schedule of posts may change slightly, but expect more of an inside look at some of the Seablanket creative processes as I document all the highs and lows, ins and outs. As I grow and mature as an artist and a person I expect my blog to change as well. Hopefully, most of you will enjoy all the newness. For Seablanket Handmade - expect changes. Through the recent Renegade process of creation, procrastination and limited resources, I was forced to draw the line and go with my gut instincts. Seablanket will begin integrating handmade dresses, blouses, tunics, leg-wear and fashion accessories on the Etsy Shoppe in January 2011. Custom orders and wholesale options will be available with a business agreement. I'll also be hitting the road (and the web) with small pop-up shops throughout the year in some of our most beloved vintage and handmade boutiques across the United States! If you're interested in seeing SB in your own town, please let me know or email me. Each destination will feature a new item and special one-time offers along with vintage picks and seasonal must-haves!The new year is going to kick some serious bootay and I really look forward to bringing you along for the ride. Thank you all for an incredible year! Can't wait for the next one!!! XXOO Chelsea
