{tutorial tuesday: diy grandpa sweater}

i love this simple diy for fall. over-sized sweaters are a staple in my fall wardrobe, and this tutorial explains how to take a simple thrift store sweater and turn it into a trendy grandpa sweater that is comfy and cute!supplies needed:
{one thrift store cardigan sweater, velvet or recycled soft leather fabric, vintage buttons, needle and thread, scissors}
--------------------------------
grandpa sweater d.i.y. directions:
{begin by cutting two brick-like rectangles out of your velvet or recycled leather materials. then round each edge with scissors, so that you have two identical ovals. try on your sweater, and bend your elbow. this bend should be the center of your elbow patch. pin your velvet or leather patches onto each elbow and hand sew them on. stitching these by hand will ensure that they are comfortable and flexible instead of stiff. next, remove the buttons that came with your sweater and replace each with a vintage button. you can mix or match them if desired. i chose some woven leather buttons i scored off of a men's sportscoat from the 1960's!}the final product is a perfectly chic grandpa sweater, appropriate to pair with all of your fall favorites! with the ability to dress it up or down, everyone will love it and ask where you got it!! best of luck with your crafting!xxoo chelsea

{manic monday: trenchcoats}

happy monday everyone! this weekend was so beautiful - rain and 6o degree weather made my anticipation of fall even higher. i had a wonderful weekend enjoying new company and dreaming up great tutorial ideas for the next few weeks! looking forward to next weekend very much as i'm traveling to portland to see friends, family and live music! now, onto manic monday!!
for week 2 of my 4 suggested fall fashion must-haves, i'm focusing on trench coats! a polished, classic look that is both practical and fashionable (think audrey hepburn in breakfast at tiffany's), it's an obvious win-win! ideal for unpredictable weather, every woman should have a trench in her closet for fall/winter. ranging in lengths, everyone can find a trench coat that fits her personality and body type!! below, you'll find style tips on how i'd suggest to wear a trench of your very own!
{my outfit} vintage cranberry knee-length trench coat, vintage burgundy girl scout beret, brown mia heels
{style tips} camel colored trenches are ideal for the season, but feel free to play around with color! pair your trench with a chunky heeled boot, pump or clog. simple, classy accessories like a mens wristwatch or cocktail ring will be your cherry on top of the outfit. as weather gets cooler, cover your legs with 70's colored tights (indigo, tangerine, or cranberry)... sheer or opaque, they'll look amazing under any trench!
i'm very excited for tomorrow's tutorial post. it's so cute, and i know you'll all love it! till then...

{trendy thursday: diy home office}

This week's trends are all focusing on how to decorate your Home Office with recycled/D.I.Y items. I don't have a home office/studio of my own yet ... but I hope to have one within the year. Here are some things I've noted and want to do for myself in the future. Enjoy!

1. D.I.Y. Desks:
Makes a bold statement to refurbish a vintage desk. Add some new pulls or paint, but make sure to keep it's vintage feel. Sometimes a little rust gives it just enough personality.

2. Alternative Storage:
These alternative sources of storage are not only cute, but very affordable and will add a great statement to any drab office. The bigger the better when It comes to these pieces..after all...who doesn't need more storage?

3. Stenciled Walls/Floors:
I am obsessed with this look right now. Maybe it stems from always wanting to write on my walls when I was younger, but stenciling really gives an urban edge to any space. Use a fun pattern to spice up an ugly cement wall or tacky floor. It's an affordable way to add instant ooh and awe to your space.

5. Vintage Land Line:
While your cellphone may be your main squeeze, think of investing in a land line to accept business calls on..It will keep you in your office, and not out gallivanting when you should be working!

6. Office Accessories
All of these items were thrifted and enhanced with paint, upholstery, or a new typewriting ribbon (except for the Jeremy Fish picture). Don't be afraid to take on big challenges when it comes to accessorizing your office...big challenges done right, will become big successes!

7. Inspiration Looks
I fell in love with these looks below. All have sweet personalities and lovely taste, exactly what a home office needs to be. A comfortable space that inspires you to create magic!

Creating this blog has made me want my own home office so badly! Soon, soon! Enjoy your Thursday!!!
