It's the final Highlight of October already! Let's meet Crystal of caPOW! Crystal is a super cute animal lover and creator from upstate New York. Her Etsy and Blog are both darling - Let's learn more about her!

My name is Crystal, but I go by CAPow, which is an abbreviation of my first initial, middle initial, and the first 3 letters of my last name. I live in Upstate NY with my awesome boyfriend M and our two cats Styles and Miyagi.I have a full time day job, but my passion lies in creating. I have a blog (windshield diaries) which is a labor of love for me, I'm a photographer, I paint, I draw, I sew, I crochet and any of the above can and will show up in my etsy shop!

{Sponsor Highlight Part 3}

For version 3 of October Sponsor Highlight series, lets kick it off by meeting Katie of I go by Katie. I was fortunate enough to meet Katie at Renegade Craft Fair in July of this year. She has such lovely taste, and her creations are beyond impressive.

My name is Katie Kukulka & I am a cobbler, seamstress, fine art photographer, entrepreneur, crafter & collector of fine things.

I work for myself handcrafting moccasins & leather accessories for Darlingtonia Moccasin Co. & when I am not cutting, sewing, or adhering leather I can be found working a myriad of other projects. Like creating & collecting for my new shop Collected or working on my fine art photography portfolio.

I live in a small town in northern california where on my days off I cruise the countryside, hunt for antiques, chow down root beer floats & picnic under oak trees with my puppy & boyfriend of 5 years.

{October Sponsor Highlight - Part 2}

First, let's meet Barbara! She has to be one of the sweetest people I've had the pleasure of meeting online. Not only is she incredibly talented and driven but she's an absolute joy to work with. I asked Barb a little bit about herself and Bands n Bows and here's what she had to share:

I'm Barb. I live on Staten Island, with my family. I graduated from college last May with a degree in Architecture. I work in an Architecture office most-time (which lies somewhere between part-time and full-time), and I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.
Likes: craft supplies, running, snow, all kinds of footwear, food, pretty things, organizing (and collecting items used for this purpose)
Dislikes: peas, dusting (or vacuuming, or any kind of household cleaning), wasting time

I design headbands, I do other random crafty projects, then I blog about it (if I can remember to take pictures!).

Basically, Bands n Bows started as a trip to the craft store (likely I should have been shopping for supplies for my Architecture Thesis Model) where I decided that if I couldn't find the bow headbands that I wanted, I should just make them myself (this is a recurring inner monologue for me). At the time, I was living in my sorority house at school, and news traveled quickly that I was using my bedroom floor as a headband making workshop. My sorority sisters started requesting headbands for themselves, and eventually suggested that I sell them online. I knew that I had to use Etsy, which I had really started to explore around the same time, and I opened my shop in Feb 2009.
Bands n Bows isn't anywhere near a full time job for me, but that's ok. I love being able to think of something in my head, and then experiment with making it myself. It's an instant gratification that I don't get from architecture, which often takes months to go from design to build. And while not everything in my head comes out as planned, each time I try something new I gain a better understanding of how to work the ribbon or fabric into the designs I'm always daydreaming of.
Towards the end of the summer, I promised myself that I would really work to do more with Bands n Bows (in response to a bit of pushing from my wonderful boyfriend PJ), and so far I'm succeeding. I did my first craft fair in September, and it was a really fun learning experience. I've been experimenting with new designs, such as barrettes and tiny baby clips, and I still have so many ideas in my head for the future. At the end of November, I'll be doing a small holiday fair which I'm getting really excited about! I've also been making connections with other bloggers and crafters by following on twitter and commenting on their blogs, instead of being the silent observer that I once was. I feel like I'm becoming part of a really awesome network of people, full of support and inspiration!

Next, lets meet Emma of Eben Lemon! This dollface runs a darling vintage shop and has THE CUTEST DOG ALIVE! What is Eben Lemon you ask?? Read on..
Hi! My name is Emma. I live on picturesque Vancouver Island with my husband Shane and our rescued pit-bull mix Eben. We just moved here from Michigan where we both grew up. I'm getting my bachelors degree in Global Studies and Environmental Science right now at a island university. I'm a sewer of sorts who loves vintage goodies. I adore everything retro and love to preserve the environment by recycling yesterdays forgotten treasures. That's why I started my Etsy shop and blog, named after my beloved pooch, to share in the amazing benefits of the past! I love to eat, create, learn, and take bubble baths!
I am a thrifting freak. I dedicate one day a week to scouring thrift stores all over this bloody island. Finding and then cleaning up a vintage owl and selling it on Etsy to someone who truly appreciates it makes my heart smile! I also sew all kinds of wonderful items including my famous high waist pencil skirt! I love to sew with upcycled fabrics, giving new life to someone's junk! I just started my Etsy shop and blog in July so I'm still a newbie at all of this! I had always dreamed of having my very own vintage store so doing it online just made sense! Even though I'm new at all of this, I've been feeling such a sense of accomplishment and excitement with every order place and every follower my blog gains! Plus it has been so much fun getting to know all the lovely ladies (like Chelsea) who blog about their craftiness, they are a great inspiration!
For me, selling vintage is just another way of recycling. I feel so compelled to limit my footprint on the Earth that participating in something like Etsy is pure goodness. Plus its simply a lot of fun and has become a good hobby! I really enjoy sharing my thoughts and personality through my blog. Sewing is in my genes! My mom is an amazing seamstress, and knitter and my dad is an artist so being creative comes naturally!
My blog has a schedule that includes: Media Monday, Tutorial Tuesday, A Day in the Life Wednesday, Treasury Thursday, Fabulous Friday and a wide variety of random goodness that I put up consistently throughout the week! Come on over and check it out!

{October Sponsor Highlights}

Welcome to Wednesday! Today, I'd like to spend some time recognizing two of my amazing October sponsors and giving you the 4-1-1 on what they're all about. Today, I'm highlighting Marathon 1981 and Kendra of Like A Bird.. Enjoy!

I am ridiculously inspired by the effervescent Kami of Marathon 1981. Her shop is filled with beautifully handmade creatures and vintage pieces in bold colors and shapes. I asked Kami a few questions about herself and what she does, so lets get to know her better:

My name is Kami and I am a self taught crafter and maker, an environmental studies student, a mother to a whacky 2 year old daughter and a wife to an amazing musician/stay at home dad. I like to cycle, go to clothing swaps and art events in our city (Winnipeg Manitoba), go to local band's shows (when we find a babysitter), baking, sewing and making large creative messes.
I work as a sous-chef in the day, assembling beautiful salads in a cute little local used bookshop/bistro, and by night I thrift and craft. I have a little Etsy shop at http://marathon1981.etsy.com where I sell my colourful vintage finds and creatures that escape my head in fabric form

I do what I do because there seems like no other option. I'm driven by my passion to make and find things, to put things together with my hands, choose colour combinations that I love and to make people laugh. I grew up in a clever family and we always had huge amounts of craft supplies from garage sales, fridge boxes and our imaginations where the limit.

Actually, I was almost born at a garage sale. My parents were on their way to the hospital when my mom was in labor and she asked to stop at a garage sale she saw but my dad refused. I think my love of treasure hunting has deep roots in my Mennonite background of finding things for cheap and mending rather than spending.

Next up is miss Kendra of Like A Bird. This young lady is beyond her years in motivation and talent as you'll see below. I asked Kendra a few questions about herself and what she does and here's what she had to say:

Hi I’m Kendra. I'm a 19 year old girl originally from Chicago area who loves nature, art and coffee. In the past year an a half I've moved 1000 miles away from home, attended art school as a photo major for a year, decided to take a break from college and am now living in the suburbs of Pittsburgh with my boyfriend. I have been blogging for years and years and have been making art for even longer. The past few months I have been trying to grow my little blog into something bigger. My blog, Like a Bird, is a part of me, and I devote an insane amount of time working on it. It's a place to inspire others, to show what I'm working on, to show off other artists, to be creative, artistic. I blog for myself but also for my readers, I hope to inspire those who read my blog and in turn to make connections and friendships with other creative individuals.
I dabble in all kinds of arts from photography, mixed media, embroidery, art journaling, digital art, creative writing and anything else I can get my hands on. I love trying new techniques, using any and all materials and using birds and butterflies as symbolism in my work, as well as the ideas of change and growth.

I create art for many different reasons. Most times, I photograph something to show the beauty that I see in it. To show my point of the world. My most recent work has been lots of art journaling and mixed media work that I do to work out my thoughts, emotions and ideas for other concepts I want to create later.

My perfect day would consist of going to a park (with a lake) for a long picnic with my boyfriend. We would lie on the grass all day, dreaming about the future, devouring a few books and doodling in my journal.

My name is Marie, and i live in an awesome neighborhood in Milwaukee called Bay View. We're right on Lake Michigan, and the lake is one of my muses. My newest and most favorite muse is my son- i am a new mama and had my baby boy on new years day (though he was really due around christmas eve)!!

I stay at home with him and sneak in time for photography and etsy while he's napping or after he's in bed for the night. My shop started out as a place for photos, but soon i found myself making little stationery sets thanks to some supplies from my mother in law, and then resin pendants using my own photos. Then I discovered the vast world of charms, findings, lockets, ect and began making all sorts of trinkets. My favorite pieces to make are the lockets in which a tiny photo of my own is the focal point- I know they are unique and they have been a favorite with customers. I listed my first item a week after my last day of work last October and have been going strong since. I can't stop, I just love etsy and can't remember life before it! Between balancing my new life as a mother and my crafts, I am a very busy bee.
