{Tutorial Tuesday: DIY Heirloom Cuff}

I've done so many things with Handkerchiefs but this is by far one of my favorites. This is the sweetest, most simple d.i.y. I've done yet, and probably my favorite. It's the perfect way to have a keepsake and keep it close to you.

Supplies needed:
A Vintage Handkerchief (preferably, one with lace or a fun monogram detail)
A Needle & thread.
1 Button
1 Set of Snaps
An Iron

Step 1.
Fold your handkerchief in half, so that you create a triangle. Sew the top points together, softly.

Step 2.
Open your triangle(as shown), and iron flat. We are going to do some pleating, so the iron will make the fabric easier to work with.

Step 3.
Pleating. DO NOT BE SCARED! It is simple, you might have to try it a time or two to get it just right, but it's so easy once you get the hang of it.
Next, you are going to fold the sides of your cuff(as shown) in, leaving the top fold smaller than the bottom fold. This will create a pleat. Sew the pleat into place(using running or hidden stitches, tacking would work as well), and iron. Repeat on the other side.

Step 4.
Measure the handkerchief around your wrist. Make marks on your handkerchief and sew your snap set on top of the marks. REMEMBER that you have to sew the snaps so they "kiss" or touch, so you'll have to sew one side under the cuff and the other on top, as shown.

Step 5.
Sew a button on the outside of your cuff, so it covers the stitches from your snap set.

This d.i.y. is perfect for anyone. Spruce it up by adding ribbon or more buttons. You could also do embroidery on the topside/pleats of the hankie...that would be adorable. For mine, I just wanted to keep the memories of a loved one close...
